Ship ahoy!

Got the "Ship of Fools" back from the casters, and well what can I say, they did an awesome job, retained so much detail, I couldnt be happier. Currently working on new peice; "Siren" for forthcoming show with the incredible illustrators Mr Mead, and Damien Daly. It'll be another show curated by myself and I'm thinking "Social Deformity" as a working title, a play on social conformity. Got another "Blind Faith" out the door for a private client, I'm undecided as to whether I should have a mould made of it or not, we'll see? Got two London galleries looking at this show, but I'd love it to go to the U.S, such a thriving pop surrealist scene over there. I'm about to move to a bigger studio, which is very exciting, some big peices to come out soon, watch this space!! Once I've got through all the unpacked boxes aaarrrggghhh!

Whats new

Well, the bristol show is over, it made me feel like I had actually broken through into the "real" art world whatever that is! It felt like a deserved break having been banging my head on the wall of many a gallery over the last few years. Standing around drinking champers and mingling with collectors, was a real buzz. Of course the real magic is in the making, a spark of imagination, followed by months of hard disciplined work, and then the payback when people actually seem to like what you've done and even maybe part with some dosh too!! Having made stuff all money from my work all year, I felt like I was holding my breath and I think I would have had to find soemthing else to do had I not made a bean. But faith and hard work do sometimes pay off. I'm currently working on two commissions post show and have added a couple of sneaky peeks at my latest work, "Ship of Fools" It'll probably cost me more to cast than I can possibly charge for it, its highly detailed and will be a bugger to mould. So hard finding good people to work with and good galleries, but View are a keeper!! I've also handed over some work to a new gallery, Imagine. The owner John Folley is a man who knows what he likes and has been hotly pursued by me. Some of the work he shows in his gallery is the best I've seen inside the U.K so I feel totally chuffed to have got through to him. Time will tell if it was worth the effort! As far as my sights go for next year, a solo of duo show would be amazing. Watch this space!

Finished Work for Myth, Magic and Madness

Well its been ages between blogs, and I've been guilted into it by a disgruntled follower!! The show "Myth, Magic and Madness" is live and kicking,  http://www.viewartgallery.co.uk/

This peice entitled "Blind Faith Borne of Persitent Patience", is hand painted ceramic, and sold at the beggining of the show.

"Centaur" Hand painted bronze resin. I was really pleased with the amount of detail retained in the casting process, I still had to work on some areas, but pretty happy given the complexity of the moulds.

"King Midas and his Touch" Another bronze resin peice, with painstakingly hand painted panels.

"The Lonely King" Bronze resin, this needed the most amount of re-working after casting, as the detail on the puppet is so fine.

"Narcissus" my take on the classic Greek character, bronze resin and gold leaf.

"Relic" oxided and lustred ceramic, a wall mounted peice, sold just afeter the opening.

First Ever Sculpture Blog, break out the champers!

Well everything is still leading up to the new show, "Myth, Magic and Maddness" due to preview at the View Gallery Bristol in the Autumn. 3 of my new peices are ready to collect from the foundry and I'm a bag of nerves and excitment! This will be the first time I've used this company, having had a lot of trouble with my last casters, who were frankly the most unpreffesional bunch of wallies ever! I've opted to work with Castle Fine Arts who have workshops in several locations around the U.K, and I've only heard good things about them, so I've got everyrthing crossed. When you are trying to sell limited edition bronze and bronze resin sculptures they've got to be perfect. It's all a calculated risk, and in terms of the invested money, which is a fair whack, I try to think of it as monopoly money, and tell myself that it's about the art anyway, not just making money. All the images below are of the pre casted peices, just rough shots with dimensions for the foundry to quote from, it'll be interesting to compare the detail on these to the finished casts which will be in bronze resin.
